Ukraine-EU trade in 2014

In 2016 the EU remained the main trading partner of Ukraine. The trade turnover in goods and services between Ukraine and the EU reached $35 923.2 million, with trade in goods amounting to $30 635.2 million and trade in services amounting to $5 287.5 million.

During 2016, bilateral trade between Ukraine and the EU has been increasing. Its total amount rose by 8.1% in comparison to 2015. The export of goods and services to EU countries in 2016 averaged $16 448.5 million, import – $19 474.6 million. Ukraine’s trade deficit (with the EU countries) increased by $357.2 million to $3 026.1 million.

Among the EU Member States, the major trading partners of Ukraine in 2016 were Germany ($6 554.7 million), Poland ($5 251.4 million), Italy ($3 437.1 million), France ($2 191.7  million), Great Britain ($2 024.6 million), Hungary ($2 019 million), Netherlands ($1 786.3 million), Spain ($1 574.7 million), Check Republic ($1 326 million), Romania ($1 162.3 million), Austria ($1 072  million), Slovakia ($1 041.6 million) and Belgium ($827.7  million).

The most important destination markets of Ukraine’s exports of goods and services were Poland ($2 424.3 million), Italy ($2 048.4 million), Germany ($1 903.5 million) and Hungary ($1 166 million).

The top import partners of Ukraine in 2016 were Germany ($4 651.2 million), Poland ($2 827.1 million), France ($1 621 million) and Italy ($1 388.8 million).

The export to the EU countries of the following types of goods increased in 2016 (comparing to the 2015):

 

-            animal or plant fats and oils – 77.5%;

-            paper bulk from wood or other pulp fibres – 52.2%;

-            miscellaneous industrial products – 44.6%;

-            products from stone, gypsum, cement – 12.9%;

-            polymeric materials, plastics and articles of them – 12.7%;

-            textile materials and apparel – 11.1%.

 

The most commonly imported types of goods from EU to Ukraine were machinery, equipment and mechanisms, electric and technical equipment (21.1% of the total amount of import from EU); products of chemical and allied industries; mineral products; ground, air and water transport facilities; polymeric materials and plastics; finished food industry products and base metals and preparations thereof.

The trade turnover in services between Ukraine and the EU in 2016 amounted to $5 287.6 million accounting for 35.4% of the total amount of trade in services of Ukraine.

The volume of Ukrainian services export to EU countries increased by 3.21% compared with 2015 and totaled $2 950.9 million. At the same time, import of services from EU decreased by 10.69% and amounted to $2 336.7 million.

The most exported types of services were transport services (54.7% of the total amount), telecommunication and computer services (16.3%), material resources processing services (11.6%) and business services (7.9%).

At the same time, the most imported services were state and government services (23.8%), transport services (21.1%), business services (14.8%), travel services (10.8%) and financial services (10.6%).

Among all EU countries, the main partners of Ukraine in trade in services in 2016 were Great Britain ($997.5 million), Germany ($812.4 million), Cyprus ($476.4 million), Poland ($358.5 million) and Austria ($245.7 million).

The main exporters of services to Ukraine in 2016 were Great Britain ($544.4 million), Germany ($332.5 million), Cyprus ($245.7 million) and Poland ($134.3 million)

The major importers of Ukrainian services were Germany ($479.8 million), Great Britain ($453 million), Cyprus ($230.7 million) and Poland ($224.1 million).
