On 26 January 2010 Col.Gen. Ivan Svyda, Chief of the General Staff – Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the framework of his visit to Brussels had an official meeting with Gen. Hakan Syren, Chairman of the EU Military Committee.
Issues of development priorities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and further stirring up of military-political dialogue between Ukraine and the EU in 2010, eventual involvement of forces and facilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to EU tactic battle groups, as well as to EU-led crisis management operations were discussed during the meeting. The EUMC Chairman invited the Chief of the General Staff – Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to participate with a speech at the meeting of the EU Military Committee to be held at the level of Chiefs of Defense in May this year.
Since 2007 regular meetings of the EUMC Chairman with Ukraine’s Chief of Defense have become a tradition. This high-level dialogue enhances further development of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU on implementation of the European security and defense policy.
