Address at the International Forum “My people will be forever!” in commemoration of the 75-th anniversary of Holodomor in Ukraine

Kyiv, National Opera House, 22 November 2008

Dear Mr. President,

Your Holiness,

Your Excellencies,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Seventy five years have passed since Stalinist monsters murdered by an artificially created famine millions of Ukrainian peasants: children, women, men... In this enormous Ukrainian grave lay not dozens, hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands – millions. It was the murder of a whole people.

Millions of Ukrainians were murdered by hunger in the centre of Europe. Children, women, men....They had neither compassion, nor help. The Ukrainian village, being killed by Stalin’s butchers was dying in the centre of Europe, was perishing in the center of Europe. Children were crying at night, they were asking their mothers for bread. Mothers didn’t have any bread: everything was taken away by the orders of Stalin’s murderers. Then children’s voices were not heard anymore. Then the village began to mournfully howl. Then it quietly groaned. Then it became silent and turned into a cemetery. And the state had bread.

It was a murder of a whole people.

Stalin’s satraps did not fear and did not know God. Those, who dare to deny today that Holodomor of 1932-1933 was a murder the whole people also do not fear and do not know God.

I ask people, I ask mankind to recognize:

Holodomor in Ukraine was a murder of the whole people,

Holodomor in Ukraine was a genocide.

There is a child who is dying of hunger. There is a mother who, dying of hunger, sees the death of her child. There is a father who, dying of hunger, sees the death of his children and his wife.

Let us look in their eyes. Let us hear their death-moan. Let us imagine their mortal sufferings. Let us commemorate every one of them.

Eternal memory to those who were killed.

They want to kill our memory. But our memory is indestructible.  We remember and we will remember. We will remember and will not forgive. They want to kill the Ukrainian spirit, the Ukrainian language, the Ukrainian history, the Ukrainian past and the Ukrainian future. They want to destroy the very Ukraine. But they will not succeed. They will not succeed!

Ukraine is divine. Ukraine is sacred. Ukraine is indestructible. Ukraine is eternal.

Glory to Ukraine!
