Hetman Sahaidachnyi completed its sixth patrolling and participation in the Ocean Shieldoperation. Yesterday the ship returned to the Djibouti port.
From October 12, 2013, through January 2, 2014, the national contingent ensured navigation security in the Gulf of Aden: informed on surface situation, completed reconnaissance of Somali coast, and interrogated ships. The ship spent 47 days while patrolling the piracy prone areas.
During this operation the special team completed 14 friendly approaches to local fishermen, investigated 10 suspicious ships.
The helicopter crew accomplished 100 reconnaissance flights and stopped 8 rapid boats failing to respond to ship interrogations.
On January 3, the national contingent joined the EU Atalanta operation (EU NAVFOR ATALANTA).
The key goal of the frigate participation will be to prevent and conduct counter-piracy actions within the EU Atalanta operation, protect civil ships accomplishing tasks within the World Food Program, prevent piracy actions, cooperate with countries, structures and organizations represented in the region for counter-piracy operations.
