At the meeting in Brussels, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz agreed that the ratification of the Association and DCFTA Agreement between Ukraine and the EU will be held in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament synchronously.
Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude to Martin Schulz for the support of the given initiative. “It will be a remarkable day for Ukraine and Europe,” Petro Poroshenko said in the interview to journalists after the meeting.
He also informed that Ukraine had invited the European Parliament to send its observers to our state to monitor the course of the election campaign and the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on October 26. “We will together do everything possible for these parliamentary elections to be really transparent, fair and become a true expression of the will of the citizens,” the President emphasized.
Petro Poroshenko thanked Martin Schulz for the “interest to the situation in our state”. He expressed hope that the visit of the President of the European Parliament to Ukraine planned for September 12 would demonstrate the solidarity of Europeans with the people of Ukraine. “I have never seen Europe as united as now when it is uniform in its solidarity with Ukraine,” the Head of State said.
Martin Schulz assured Petro Poroshenko of full support to Ukraine within the EU institutions in the issues of protection of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
