Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavičius took part in a meeting of the Monitoring Group on Ukraine

On March 24, in the framework of the visit to the EU institutions in Brussels, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine A.Abromavičius participated in a meeting of the Monitoring Group on Ukraine of the European Parliament Committee on International Trade.

There was a detailed exchange of views on the current reform process in Ukraine, especially in the context of the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, inter alia, regarding the preparation for the introduction of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. Aivaras Abromavičius informed the Members of the European Parliament on the outcome of the first 100 days of work of the economic block of Ukraine’s Government, the key focus of which currently is business deregulation, improvement of the investment climate in Ukraine, implementation of the EU standards. They also exchanged views with the MEPs on the Ukrainian government reform agenda for the near future, in particular, with regard to stabilizing the economic and financial situation.

The Minister of Economic Development and Trade expressed his gratitude to the members of the Committee for the support of the European Commission’s proposal on the allocation for Ukraine of the third program’s macro-financial assistance in the amount of 1.8 bln euros. "We hope that the European Parliament tomorrow, on 25 March, will support, with a convincing majority, the proposal of the European Commission, which will be an important step towards supporting the reform efforts of the Ukrainian government," said A.Abromavičius. The Minister of Economy also noted the leading role of the European Parliament in extending the regime of autonomous trade preferences for the goods originating in Ukraine, which is an important economic factor in terms of Russian aggression.
