September 14, 2015 a working visit of the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Andrii Pyvovarskyi to the EU institutions, in the framework of which he met with EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and enlargement negotiations Johannes Hahn and EU Commissioner for Transport V.Bulc.
During the meetings the sides discussed the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union in the transport sector with special emphasis on assistance from the EU in the implementation of internal transformation and adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to European standards within the transport sector reform in Ukraine.
During the discussion on integration of the national transport network of Ukraine to the European networks it was noted the importance of including inland waterways of Ukraine to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), in particular the Ukrainian part of the Danube in the context of development of transport links in the region.
The parties confirmed readiness to sign by the end of 2015 an agreement on a Common Aviation Area between Ukraine and the EU in accordance with the decision of the April Ukraine – EU summit and Eastern Partnership Summit in May.
During the meeting parties reaffirmed the common understanding of the importance of the transport component in the relations between Ukraine and the EU, which is an integral part of the creation of appropriate conditions for the development of business activity and human contacts. It was noted that the importance of this component further increases in terms of preparation for the launch of operation of a deep and comprehensive free trade zone between Ukraine and the EU, and in the context of the Action Plan to liberalize the EU visa regime for Ukrainian citizens.
