Today a public debate “Invisible face of the Ukrainian conflict:impact on children ", organized by MEP Anna Maria Corazza Bildt, was held in the European Parliament.
In the framework of the event, representatives of Ukrainian NGOs and volunteers informed about the current humanitarian situation in Ukraine with a focus on the problems of children of IDPs, as well as those who currently remain in the conflict zone. Emphasis was made on the efforts towards the provision of social protection of children, their access to education and healthcare institutions, conducting psychological rehabilitation and treatment for the most affected categories of children, including the disabled.
A key thesis of the debate was the call for political circles of the European Union, the European Parliament, EU Member States and international organizations to mobilize efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
Chairman of the EP delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee Andrej Plenković drew attention in particular to initiatives to assist Ukrainian children, including the organization of summer camps for their rehabilitation in the EU Member States.
A.Martins, EEAS representative, emphasized that the implementation of the Minsk agreements is a key prerequisite for a political settlement of the situation in Ukraine and therefore to further stabilization of the situation.
Acting Representative of Ukraine to the EU L.Nepop noted the need for further development of cooperation between the authorities of Ukraine, Ukrainian civil society and volunteers, as well as international organizations on the basis of coordination of efforts, joint responsibility and solidarity in ensuring the rights of children in Ukraine, suffering from the consequences of military aggression in the East of the country.
