Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with Vice President of the European Commission on Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič

In the framework of his visit to Brussels, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with Vice President of the European Commission on Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.

In the discussion on cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the energy sector, the parties exchanged views on the implementation of the agreements reached on the basis of tripartite consultations on Russian gas deliveries to Ukraine in winter period 2015 - 2016.

Close attention was paid to the reform of Ukraine's gas sector, as well as to the attracting of European investments in the Ukrainian gas transportation system and to the need to further increase of the gas supplies to Ukraine from the territory of the EU Member States.

P.Klimkin called for preserving of the EU solidarity approach with Ukraine and stressed in this context the importance of preventing the construction of new gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine, which are politically motivated and do not meet EU legislation.

The European Commission confirmed the readiness to continue cooperation with Ukraine as a reliable gas transit partner to Europe and noted that bringing Ukrainian energy sector in line with the Third Energy Package provides additional opportunities in this context.
