Nadiya Savchenko in Brussels calls on Europe to support Ukraine
“Ukraine faces uneasy times and we need to reach a point of no return to the totalitarian past to make us move in the democratic direction not only in words, but in deeds also. There is just one step left to achieve this. But the last battle is the hardest one, and I hope that the world will not leave us in this fight and will help us to make this decisive and such a necessary step. Hopefully, in the foreseen future Ukraine will become a decent partner for the European Union and for all the civilized European world”,- said Savchenko.
She also called on the European Union to not weaken the sanctions against Russia until Ukraine's territorial integrity restored.
“The European Union has to understand and confirm its values, that the human life is more valuable than money and business interests. France at the time was one of the signatories of the Budapest Memorandum providing security assurances to Ukraine. However, Russia also was the signatory and defender of Ukraine, when the later gave up its nuclear weapons. Russia has showed what kind of guarantor it is. But I believe, that Europe rises above. All the positive things, which the Normandy contact group has begun to do must be completed by Europe. Sanctions shouldn’t be lifted until the bear learns the lesson”, stated Savchenko.
Meetings in the European Parliament during the visit of Nadiya Savchenko to Brussels are taking place within the framework of the LetMyPeopleGo campaign, aimed to help the Kremlin’s prisoners. A visit of Nadiya Savchenko to Belgium was organized by the Open Dialogue Foundation together with the deputies of the European Parliament.
