The Head of State noted that at the meeting with President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz he had discussed the necessity of speeding up the adoption of the European Parliament’s decision on the visa-free regime and trade preferences. “Ukraine enjoys firm support of the majority of European MPs. For today, immediately after solving the issue of mechanism for suspension of the visa-free regime, this decision will be immediately adopted. We are sure about it,” the Head of State noted at the press conference in Brussels.
According to the President, he had been convinced of that, inter alia, during his meetings within the summit of the European People’s Party. President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Council Donald Tusk and several leaders of the European member-states have supported the necessity of speeding up the provision of the visa-free regime, ratification of the Association Agreement and provision of trade preferences, as stated by Petro Poroshenko.
“Maastricht is a symbolic city. The financial union started in it 25 years ago and it is a symbol of European integration. This was the first time I’ve been in this hall where these historic documents had been signed. And today, I felt a reliable and firm support from the EU in our aspirations on the implementation of those programs that we’ve discussed,” the President said.
The Head of State informed that in the course of his meetings in Brussels, the heads of state and government noted that the issue of Russia would be discussed at today’s session of the European Council given the irresponsible behavior of Russia in Aleppo. The heads of state and government noted firm support of the EU in the issue of protection of Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
