On April 24, 2018, during a working visit to Brussels, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko participated in a public hearing in the European Parliament titled "Can Ukraine win the war against corruption?"

The participants of the debate discussed the issues that still remain in in the criminal and non-criminal spheres of fighting against corruption in Ukraine, as well as the results of the work of state authorities and the law-enforcement on these issues.

During his speech, Yuriy Lutsenko focused on the achievements of the Prosecutor General office in prosecuting former and current corrupt officials, as well as the need to eliminate existing corruption schemes utilized by politicians and oligarchs.

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine used a metaphor to emphasize his point: "If you have a hole in the ship, it is not enough to work actively with a pump. Convicted corruptors – are not the final result of the fight against corruption, it is necessary to eliminate the schemes that they use. We have eliminated corruption in public procurement, VAT refunds, liquidated so-called tax bases, but lots of problems still have to be solved "- he stated.

Yuriy Lutsenko also said: "If there is a desire - there is always a way." He called for the cooperation of the efforts of the relevant government authorities and civil society in this direction, which he called "the second front of the war for Ukraine."

During the public hearings, Members of the European Parliament, representatives from Think tanks and the Ukrainian delegation exchanged views on the further steps necessary to establish the rule of law in Ukraine.

On April 25, 2018, the Prosecutors office delegation also participated in public hearings on the topic of "Entrepreneurship in modern Ukraine", organized in the European Parliament.

Yuriy Lutsenko informed the participants about the steps taken by the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine during the last two years in order to create a favorable climate for investments originating from international businesses.

Y.Lutsenko noted that innovations in the work of the public prosecutor's offices such as the creation of the General Inspection; the formation of self-government bodies; a set of "new faces"; and the implementation of the Roadmap for the reform of the prosecutor's offices, in cooperation with foreign partners, will provide prosecutors with the best international standards and in the long run will contribute to the increasing attractiveness of Ukraine for foreign investment.

Also, during his speech, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine stressed that the last year's decree on reducing pressure on honest business, establishing direct dialogue with the Business Ombudsman's Council and business associations are important steps on the way of increasing the interest of foreign entrepreneurs in our country.

"I assure you that the voice of the business is well heard in law enforcement agencies of Ukraine," Yuriy Lutsenko concluded.
