On 20 October 2018, in the heart of Brussels at Albertina Square, Ukrainian community and Mission of Ukraine to the EU joined an international campaign "Light a Candle of Remembrance!" dedicated to the commemoration of the 85th anniversary of the 1932-1933 Holodomor-genocide in Ukraine.
Representatives of the Ukrainian community read the memories of those who survived the terrible tragedy of the Holodomor and underscored the importance of preserving the memory about all Ukrainians who were killed by the Soviet regime.
"We all have to remember those terrible times. Remember and pray for the souls of those who perished. We also hope that the UN will recognize this horrible tragedy as genocide. Recently this has been done by the US Senate. We will work further with our Belgian colleagues on this and we hope that Belgian Government and Parliament will join this appeal and elaboration of a draft resolution on the recognition of the genocide against the Ukrainian people ", - stated Mykola Tochytskyi, Head of the Mission of Ukraine to the EU.
Representatives of the Ukrainian community read out the names of 85 children starved to death by the Stalin’s regime. The participants honored the memory of the innocent victims of the Holodomor with a minute of silence.
