It was announced by Chief of General Staff - Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the meeting in Brussels with the newly appointed Chairman of the EU Military Committee.
On January 16, 2013 during a visit to Brussels, Chief of Staff – Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Volodymyr Zamana met with newly appointed Chairman of the EU Military Committee, General of the France Air Forces Patrick de Rousiers.
The sides discussed the state of military cooperation between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and military structures of the EU. They took note of the successful implementation of the Working Plan of military cooperation between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the EU Council in the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) in 2012 according to the defined priorities. These concern, namely, enlarging military and political dialogue between the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the EU military structures, participation in crisis management operations led by the EU, improving interoperability between units of the Armed Forces in order to participate in joint military exercises, Armed Forces units training for participation in EU battle groups, training of experts in CSDP.
Colonel-General V.Zamana informed about the participation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in nternational peacekeeping operations. He confirmed that Ukraine is ready to send the frigate "Hetman Sagaidachny" to participate in an EU anti-piracy "Atalanta" within agreed time framework.
The Chairman of the EU Military Committee expressed satisfaction with the results of Ukraine’s Armed Forces participation in HELBROC battlegroup in 2011. In this regard, the Ukrainian party informed about the intention to participate in BG HELBROC in 2014.
The parties also discusses crisis situation in Mali and possible ways to settle it.
Chief of the General Staff - Commander of the Armed Forces V.Zamana expressed hope for further cooperation with the new EU Chairman of Military Committee and invited him to visit Ukraine at his convenience.
