Head of the Mission of Ukraine to the EU Mykola Tochytskyi appealed with a letter to President of the European Parliament David Sassoli and Chairman of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee David McAllister with a call to strongly condemn and respond appropriately to the illegal visit of French MEPs to the occupied Crimea.
Mykola Tochytskyi noted that the organization of this visit is yet another Russia’s futile attempt to legitimize its illegal actions on the Ukrainian territory, including holding the illegal "voting" on the amendments to the constitution of the Russian Federation. Moreover, such a visit by some French MEPs not only violates Ukrainian law, but also contradicts the official position of the European Union on the unconditional support of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
“Since 2014, the European Parliament has repeatedly emphasized in its numerous resolutions its unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The non-recognition policy of the attempted annexation of Crimea, human rights situation in the occupied Crimea and the militarization of the peninsular are the issues, which stay high on its agenda. Therefore, I strongly believe that the European Parliament should not be part of the Russia’s hybrid attempts to legitimize the attempted annexation of Crimea and its barbaric policy towards independent countries, " – underscored Mykola Tochytskyi.
