A key theme of the meeting was discussion of progress made by Ukraine regarding the implementation of Ukraine-EU Association Agreement criteria set out by the Council Conclusions on Ukraine of 10 December 2012 and the Joint Statement of EU - Ukraine Summit on 25 February 2013.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine informed the European Parliament President on the activities of the Ukrainian side in the context of justice reform, improvement of electoral legislation, constitutional reform as well as the fight against corruption.
The counterparts noted the positive recovery of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and expressed hope that further work of Ukrainian Parliament will be in atmosphere of unity of political forces around a common goal of European integration.
Parties also welcomed the decision by the European Parliament on the prolongation of the mandate of the Monitoring Mission in Ukraine led by A.Kwasniewski and P.Cox. According to A. Kluyev the mission not only helped to restore the constructive dialogue between Ukraine and the EU, but also became a unique foreign policy instrument that strengthened the role of the European Parliament among EU institutions.
Participants also noted the consent of the European Parliament on the effective date of the revised Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on visa facilitation, which was an appropriate response to the recent ratification of the document by Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Andriy Kluyev thanked Martin Schulz for his contribution to the developing and deepening of relations between Ukraine and the European Union.
By President’s Decree n.127/2013 of 12 March 2013, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Andriy Kluyev was appointed as coordinator for the governmental authorities activities in the field of European integration and cooperation with the EU institutions.
