The Commissioner for Human Rights declared this thesis at the press conference for journalists following the results of three-day working visit to Brussels
On her belief, it is necessary to enlarge powers of Ombudsman in the sphere of fight against discrimination in order to withdraw inconsistent provisions from the draft law which cause rejection in the Ukrainian society.
"During meetings with representatives of the European institutes we could consult how to work in our situation when the Ukrainian society can't accept those changes which are waited by EU", – Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska emphasized.
According to her, the suspense of the problem by the parliament concerning the law on discrimination is a cornerstone in an issue of realization of the first phase of visa regime liberalization therefore after providing the legislative framework for amendments concerning powers of the Commissioner for Human Rights it is possible to start realization of the new created mechanism.
"After creation of such mechanism we will explain to citizens of Ukraine the right of everyone to realization of constitutional rights for equal opportunities. And today our main task – to coordinate EU and Ukraine positions, and then to the Vilnius summit we will find a way out of this difficult situation", – Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska stressed.
According to the Ombudsman, the Office of the Commissioner jointly with representatives of civil society have already elaborated the strategy project on realization of anti-discrimination policy regarding legal evaluation of draft laws which are submitted to the parliament, for compliance with the European standards, and also carrying out expertise of government resolutions.
