On May 13, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Pavlo Sheremeta and EU Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht met in Brussels in the framework of a visit of the Governmental delegation led by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
The parties discussed the current state of trade relations, specifically a regime of autonomous trade preferences which is applied by the European Union since April 23 to the goods of Ukrainian origin. The Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine stressed that the abovementioned preferences would provide an opportunity for Ukrainian business to feel in practice the advantages of free trade with the European Union.
Besides, Pavlo Sheremeta assured the new Ukrainian leaders intend to sign the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union especially concerning free trade zone as soon as possible.
Pavlo Sheremeta and Karel De Gucht considered also how to support Ukraine in trade area, including the steps in the World Trade Organization frames called to facilitate stabilization of the balance of payments in Ukraine, specifically through promoting export.
