President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.
The Head of State has noted that the visit of the High Representative of the European Union, that had taken place the day after the inaugural session of the Association Council "Ukraine-EU" in Brussels, demonstrated the great attention to Ukraine of the EU and Federica Mogherini personally. "I would like to express gratitude to the EU for the powerful support of Ukraine and the readiness to provide macro-financial assistance. It is also important that the EU will provide advisory assistance in the introduction and implementation of reforms," Petro Poroshenko has emphasized.
The President has noted that recent months had demonstrated the transition of relations between Ukraine and the EU to the qualitatively new level related to the implementation of the Association Agreement and the beginning of the work of the Association Council.
Federica Mogherini has confirmed that the EU paid top-priority attention to Ukraine. "We can begin our work using the instruments that have emerged due to the Association Agreement and implement the reforms. We should continue our joint work just as we have ratified the Agreement. We should move forward hand in hand - Ukraine and the EU," she said.
In the course of the meeting, the parties have paid significant attention to the situation in the Donbas and the necessity of fulfilling the Minsk agreements. Federica Mogherini has noted that the EU would keep on supporting Ukraine, "for the conflict to be finished with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine". She has emphasized that the EU would do everything, for the Minsk agreements to be fulfilled.
Also, the parties have discussed the implementation of reforms in Ukraine. The Head of State has emphasized that the government was willing to carry out qualitative changes in the country and the hybrid war would not prevent those changes. According to the President, the Strategy of Reforms - 2020 will become the basis, "for the long-run objective of the reforms is the preparation of the country to receiving the prospect of the EU membership". At the same time, the President has emphasized that there was a list of top-priority tasks to be fulfilled by the end of the year. "We expect the Parliament to approve a series of reforms next week, for it will determine the fate of the country," the Head of State has noted. In the course of the meeting, Petro Poroshenko and Federica Mogherini have discussed the constitutional reform, decentralization, creation of qualitatively new investment climate, introduction of the rule of law and judicial reform. The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs has stressed that Ukraine could count on the EU in the issue of reforms. She has noted that the Government had a very ambitious plan of state reformation. "I would like to convey a message to Ukrainians: keep united and focused on reforms, for it is the way out of the difficult situation. You must not only overcome the conflict, but also ensure prosperity and normal future for the people of Ukraine," Federica Mogherini has said.
The interlocutors have also discussed the issue of visa liberalization. "We have reached the agreement and I am sure that Ukraine will demonstrate resolute actions to complete the procedure of visa regime liberalization before the Summit in Riga and determine the clear date of the introduction of visa-free regime with the EU for Ukrainians," the President has informed.
