The Mission of Ukraine to the EU has passed to the European Parliament the Appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calling for assistance in releasing political prisoners
On 13 January, the Mission of Ukraine to the EU handed over to President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and the deputy corps of the EP the Appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calling for assistance in the efforts of the Ukrainian side to release, within the shortest possible time, Member of Ukrainian Parliament Nadiya Savchenko, Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov and other citizens of Ukraine illegally detained in the Russian Federation.
The issue of the detention of Ukrainian citizens in Russia’s territory, including Nadiya Savchenko, is constantly on the agenda of the European Parliament. In particular, in October 2014 the letter signed by 61 EP deputies from different political groups has been sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin demanding the immediate release of illegally detained Ukrainian political prisoners.
In addition, it is expected that the call for immediate release of Ukrainian citizens will be included in the resolution of the European Parliament, the adoption of which is scheduled for January 15.
