Ukrainian side was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine for European Integration Ms.Olena Zerkal, the European Commission - Director General of DG "Migration and home affairs" Mr.Matthias Ruete.
During the meeting the parties discussed the conclusions of the report of the European Commission on the implementation of the second phase of the EU visa liberalization Action Plan for Ukraine, published on 8 May.
European Commission stressed the recognition of significant progress made by Ukraine in the implementation of the criteria of the second phase of the Action Plan, and confirmed the intention to continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance and support.
Ukraine delegation took note of the conclusions of the Report, according to which the vast majority of tasks are fulfilled or almost fulfilled. O.Zerkal informed the EU side about measures taken by the Government of Ukraine to complete the second phase of the Action Plan and expressed hope that in cooperation with the European Commission Ukraine would promptly execute the rest of the tasks.
The parties agreed to hold an expert meeting in the nearest future to agree on practical steps for the implementation of the priority recommendations of the European Commission in the areas of migration management, the fight against corruption and law enforcement cooperation.
Given the significant progress of Ukraine, the parties welcomed the readiness of the EU side to prepare a further report by the end of this year.
Ukraine-EU Senior Officials on visa-free dialogue reaffirmed the common willingness of the parties to introduce visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens without delay immediately after achieving the sufficient progress in implementing the recommendations of the Report.
Further steps will be discussed by the President of Ukraine during the next meeting with the leaders of European countries, particularly in Aachen and Riga.
