On June 1, the Representative of Ukraine to the EU Kostiantyn Yelisieiev took part in the meeting of European Parliament Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee at the invitation of the head of delegation Andrej Plenković
The sides exchanged views on the situation in the eastern Ukraine with a special focus on its humanitarian aspect. The Representative of Ukraine informed the MEPs about the efforts made by the Ukrainian authorities to ensure the humanitarian needs of the citizens affected by the Russian aggression, particularly those living in the occupied territories. He also called to explore the additional opportunities to increase EU assistance, which will be an alternative to the Russian convoys, including through direct contacts between Ukrainian and European territorial units at the local government level.
The Representative of Ukraine also expressed gratitude to the European Parliament for a clear and consistent support of the European aspirations of Ukraine, in particular, for initiating a letter to the EU leadership ahead of the Riga Summit called to give clear signals about European perspective and visa-free regime for Ukraine.
"The European Parliament has always advocated and will continue to support the ambitious agenda of relations between Ukraine and the EU - said the Chairman of the EP Delegation Andrej Plenković - it includes a definition of clear prospects for Ukraine as well as countering Russian aggression."
MEPs urged to take all possible measures to de-escalation of the situation and to assist the population which suffers as a result of the ongoing Russian aggression.
