In the course of the working visit to Brussels, President Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk to discussed the restoration of peace in Ukraine and the resolution of the situation in Donbas. The Head of State was content with the coordination of actions with the President of the European Council as regards the peace issue in Ukraine.

According to him, the negotiations in the U.S. primarily concerned the continuation of sanctions against Russia. “As you know, the U.S. introduced new sanctions and confirmed that these sanctions would remain valid until full implementation of the Minsk agreements,” Petro Poroshenko said.
“I was really glad to hear from Donald Tusk and within our consultations with other EU leaders that the EU's position is unity and solidarity with Ukraine. This is vitally important for us,” Petro Poroshenko said in the press statement.
Petro Poroshenko informed Donald Tusk on the situation in Donbas and emphasized the inadmissibility of continuation of shelling, the necessity of withdrawal of troops and armament from the occupied territories and liberation of hostages.
The President noted that Ukraine also coordinated positions as regards politically motivated Russian project “Nord Stream 2” aimed not only against Ukraine, but also against the whole EU. “Diversification of energy resources, energy cooperation and efficient cooperation are very important for us,” he added.
