Ukraine sets a goal to fully integrate into the energy market of the European Union and to maintain its role as a key gas transit country under the joint management of Ukraine's gas transmission system. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman made this statement during a meeting with Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.

According to the Head of Government, the application of  European Union’s internal gas market principles in Ukraine is a key element of the concept of gas supplies to the EU and Ukraine after 2019, when existing contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will be terminated.

"Over the last three years, Ukraine has drastically changed the conditions for the operation of gas and electricity markets in line with European requirements. These changes confirm the obvious: our key goal is Ukraine's integration into the EU energy market. In turn, the Ukrainian gas transmission system has proven its reliability to provide uninterrupted transit of gas, even in difficult conditions. That is why we continue to call for an objective and sober assessment of the threats posed by Nord Stream 2 project, which is Russia's exclusive energy weapon aimed both against Ukraine and  the countries of the European Union, "Volodymyr Groysman stressed.

The Head of Government also informed on the progress of the implementation of the national energy efficiency program and the establishment of the Energy Efficiency Fund, as well as the further unbundling of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

"Owing to our close partnership, the energy sector is one of the most advanced in the context of fulfilling our obligations under the Association Agreement with the European Union", stressed Volodymyr Groysman.
