President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is convinced that the state should preserve the chosen European vectors and the pace of progress in this direction.

"I firmly believe that we must preserve the vectors and pace of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. And preserve the goals set in line with the position of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people," the Head of State said during a conversation with journalists in Brussels, following the negotiations with the NATO Secretary General and the President of the European Council.

Petro Poroshenko stated that Ukraine has "full support both in NATO and in the European Union, as well as the support of our partners from the G7 countries".

"And I can emphasize that the steps and the foreign policy carried out in Ukraine over the last five years allowed us to assert that Ukraine has gained a high authority as an important subject of European politics," he added.

In general, today's talks have been called efficient by the President. "I can now emphasize that these negotiations were very successful," he added.

In particular, according to Petro Poroshenko, during the meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the next steps were discussed as regards the tools to be provided to Ukraine. "Including the NATO Membership Action Plan. The confirmation of the decision of the Bucharest Summit, the last Brussels Summit in 2018, which took place with my participation and clearly declared that NATO's doors are open to Ukraine," he said.

"We must firmly and resolutely pursue the reforms that will ensure our membership in NATO, continue the course  launched over the past five years," the President said.

He also thanked the Secretary General and the entire NATO team for a very powerful and important support of our state: "In preserving the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine; in the implementation of defense and security sector reforms that were highly evaluated by our NATO partners".

According to Petro Poroshenko, in a meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, the issues in the context of the Eastern Partnership - Ukraine were discussed. "You know that the Eastern Partnership Summit takes place today and tomorrow. It is clearly stated that Ukraine is the leader of the Eastern Partnership, and today we hold the view that those who have done more should be given more opportunities," he said.

"I want to emphasize at the same time that the Eastern Partnership program does not limit our bilateral cooperation. And it was confirmed that the Ukraine-EU Summit would be held this summer and a very ambitious agenda is already under way. I have proposed a number of things so that we do not slow down the pace of our cooperation with the European Union. And we succeeded," Petro Poroshenko stressed.

The Head of State also noted that he had decided to award President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker the Orders of Yaroslav the Wise and hand over these awards during this visit. "I think they deserved this high award as friends of Ukraine, as true reliable partners of Ukraine over the last five years. And we can definitely say that they sincerely share the goals of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the Ukrainian state," he concluded.
