During the working visit the EU Commissioner met with the Prime - Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources O.Proskuryakov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine A.Olefirov, Head of the State Agency of Fisheries of Ukraine V.Dronyk and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine V.Kornienko.
M. Damanaki presented the EU approach for Integrated Maritime Policy (IMP) and possible ways of the involvement of Ukraine into its realization. The parties discussed some aspects of cooperation in the Black Sea region including the presidency of Ukraine in the BSEC since January 2013.
Commissioner expressed interest in Ukraine's participation as a full member in the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean. The Ukrainian side proposed creating a separate group for cooperation in the Black Sea, which was supported by the European Commissioner.
EU side represented EU initiative "Blue Growth", which opens the possibility for joint projects in areas of alternative energy, shelf exploration and scientific study of the seabed. During the visit the parties discussed the issue of recognition by the EU the Ukrainian certificates to confirm the legality extraction of water biological resources, as well as further steps to improve and approximate Ukrainian legislation with the EU standards.
