Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Olefirov discussed with the European Commission a number of current issues related to the prospects for visa-free travel for citizens of Ukraine to the EU

July 22, 2013 in Brussels, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine - Chief of Staff Andrew Olefirov met with Director General of the European Commission's "internal affairs" Stefano Manservizi.

The key issue of the meeting were prospects for visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine. Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine gave the Commission a third report on Ukraine's progress in implementing the first phase of the Action Plan for the liberalization of the EU visa regime for Ukraine. Upon consideration of the report by the European Commission, EU member states will decide on the transition to the second phase of implementation of the Action Plan.

Andrew Olefirov stressed that Ukraine has approved the vast majority of legislation under the first phase of the Action Plan, which creates conditions for the approval of such a decision soon.

Ukrainian side emphasized that the introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukraine best promotes public awareness of the benefits of European integration.
