On October 2, Brussels hosted bilateral consultations between Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Prodan and Vice-President of the EU, European Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger.
Ukraine and the European Commission discussed the issue of energy security of Ukraine and the EU, including proposals to address the complex issues of Russian gas supplies to Ukraine and its transit to European consumers. Special attention was paid to ensuring the reverse supply of natural gas from the EU Member States in Ukraine in full as well as measures taken in the context of preparations for the autumn-winter period.
The Minister informed the EU side about Ukraine's gas market reforms, including plans to implement the adopted law on the reform of the Ukrainian gas transport system and the reorganization of Naftogaz, in accordance with the commitments undertaken by Ukraine within the framework of the Energy Community.
Yuriy Prodan and Gunther Oettinger have confirmed determination to promote active cooperation so as to ensure energy security as well as commitment to the principle of solidarity.
