Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz will initiate a joint programme on increasing institutional capacity of the Verkhovna Rada and the efficiency of its work.
Volodymyr Groysman stressed the importance of increasing institutional capacity of the Verkhovna Rada; ensuring transparency and efficiency of its work; and the necessity to increase quality of the decisions taken. “We need to form a new culture of parliamentarism in Ukraine,” he noted.
“We are proceeding to new relations between our parliaments,” said Volodymyr Groysman during the briefing for journalists after the meeting.
Mr. Martin Schulz confirmed that the European Parliament is against annexation of Crimea and military aggression against Ukraine. “We have agreed that we will do everything possible the parliaments can do in this situation,” he stressed.
Earlier, talking with journalists after the meeting withy the President of the European Committee of Regions, Volodymyr Groysman said that the meetings that took place during the official visit of the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to Brussels prove that “our friends in the European Union realize the real state of affairs in Ukraine both from the viewpoint of military aggression and that of the challenges on the part of the Russian Federation.”
“We should be united, since it is important for us that freedom, general democratic values and peace be steadfast in the civilized world,” he said.
