He stressed that the relative provision is fixed in the laws of Ukraine “On foundations of the national security of Ukraine” and “On foundations of foreign and internal policies” and provides a guideline for the activities of the state authorities of Ukriane. A.Klyuev also noted that the European integration remains an important issue in the sector of the national security, which is his direct domain of competence.
He said that he viewed his task as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council the strengthening of security and competitiveness of Ukraine in political, economic and humanities spheres.
The top priority in guaranteeing internal stability based on common with EU values is holding free and fair transparent parliamentary elections in October and a successful conclusion of judiciary and constitutional reforms, Klyuev said. He also reminded about the reform of criminal legislation which is going on in Ukraine with a view to approximate it to the European standards. It was stated that the leadership of Ukraine is committed to guarantee a free and transparent election process.
In the context of the energy security, Andri Klyuev said that Ukraine was committed to follow the European way by decreasing the use of energy resources and increasing energy efficiency. He expressed a hope that the Ukrainian and Russian side will find a compromise in the issue of reviewing the gas price, admitting that the negotiations were not easy.
A.Klyuev emphasized the need to initial the Association Agreement as soon as possible. He informed about the steps Ukraine undertakes to move to the second phase of the visa free dialogue with the EU, namely about submission to the Verkhovna Rada of a new bill on biometric passports.
A.Klyuev thanked the organizers for the invitation to participate in the event and to the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and the ENP S.Fule, Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Sweden and Lithuania who also participated in the discussion, for their constant and frank support of the European integration of Ukraine.
